A conference organised by the Bhartiya Shiksha Board (BSB) at B.N.S.D. Shiksha Niketan, Kanpur, brought together hundreds of educationists to discuss reforms aiming to align India’s school education with its cultural roots while preparing students for modern challenges.

The Bhartiya Shiksha Board, set up by the Government of India, blends traditional knowledge systems with contemporary education. Developed by leading scholars and aligned with the National Education Policy, its curriculum aspires to produce well-rounded citizens — intellectually sharp, value-driven and physically confident. Patanjali Yogpeeth has been assigned operational responsibility for the board.

“Those who delay affiliation will regret later”

Addressing the gathering, Dr. N.P. Singh (IAS, Retd.), Chairman of BSB, said, “For too long, Indian education has been guided by Macaulay’s colonial framework. We need a system that creates leaders, not followers. The Bhartiya Shiksha Board is the board of the 21st century.”

He emphasised that BSB would equip teachers to develop future entrepreneurs and innovators, and that its curriculum restores cultural reverence for womanhood by fostering strong women and respectful men.

In a pointed message, he remarked, “Those who choose not to affiliate with the Bhartiya Shiksha Board today will regret it later. This is a transformative step for Indian education.”

“Education must shape warriors and citizens”

Wing Commander Pushkal Vijay Dwivedi (Retd.), Director General, Bhartiya Shiksha Anusandhan Parishad, and known as the Father of Self Defence Science, said education must go beyond academics to build character and resilience.

He explained that Self Defence Science has, for the first time, been included as a formal subject by BSB, meeting both civilisational and contemporary needs. “Modern education gives information but not integrated personality development. We must raise citizens who are confident, disciplined and culturally rooted,” he said.

Dwivedi’s speech was met with strong appreciation from participants, many of whom described it as a much-needed intervention in school education.

Administrative Endorsement

District Magistrate Shri J.P. Singh praised the initiative, stating that it can position India as a knowledge-based superpower. District Inspector of Schools Shri Santosh Roy called upon educators and institutions to actively support the reforms to make them effective at the ground level.

Participation and Outlook

Several prominent educationists and local dignitaries attended, including Gaurav Pandey, Jaya Shukla, Meena Dwivedi, Shakti Shukla, Kusum Dwivedi, Pinky Sahu, Rajneesh Sinha and Neelam Shukla.

The conference concluded with a shared understanding that the Bhartiya Shiksha Board marks a decisive moment in Indian education — moving beyond colonial legacies to create leaders, innovators and responsible citizens.
