The imprisoned former prime minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, has received a Nobel Peace Prize nomination. Imran Khan’s work for democracy and human rights has earned him a Nobel Peace Prize nomination.

Imran Khan, 72, was nominated by members of the Pakistan World Alliance (PWA), an advocacy group that was established in December and is affiliated with the Norwegian political party Partyt Sentrum.

“We are happy to announce on behalf of Partiet Sentrum that we have nominated Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan, for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work with human rights and democracy in Pakistan, in alliance with somebody with the right to nominate,” the party said on X on Sunday.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee chooses the winner after a rigorous eight-month procedure that receives hundreds of nominations annually, according to The Express Tribune.

Since August 2023, Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan’s primary opposition party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been imprisoned.

In a case involving corruption and abuse of power, the former prime minister of Pakistan was given a 14-year prison term in January. The former premier was found guilty in the fourth significant case.

Courts reversed or suspended three prior convictions for illicit marriage, selling state gifts, and disclosing state secrets.

Khan lost power after a no-confidence vote in April 2022. He denies all charges against him, calling them politically motivated.

In 2019, Imran Khan was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in promoting peace in South Asia.
