The New India Co-operative Bank had granted a remission of ₹1.55 crore to actor Preity Zinta in order to settle her loan of ₹18 crore which it classified as a non-performing asset (NPA), police said on Thursday.
Preity Zinta granted ₹1.55 crore loan remission by New India Coop Bank
The loan was sanctioned in 2011 from the troubled New India Co-operative Bank.
As per an official, Preity settled the loan in April 2014.
How is Preity Zinta linked with New India Coop Bank
The New India Co-operative Bank embezzlement case is presently being looked into by the Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW). Eight defendants have been taken into custody thus far in the case, including Hitesh Mehta, the former general manager and head of accounting for the bank, who was detained on February 15.
When information on Preity’s loan emerged, the agency’s investigation included a review of the bank’s non-performing loan data from 2010 onward.
“It was discovered during the investigation that actor Preity Zinta had borrowed money from the bank. On January 7, 2011, a loan of ₹18 crore was approved for her,” he stated.
She had given the bank a mortgage on her assets, which included a Shimla house and an apartment in Mumbai, totaling ₹27.41 crore. She was required to reimburse the bank ₹11.40 crore in November 2012,” the officer stated.
Because she did not repay her loan on time, it was declared non-performing assets (NPA) on March 31, 2013, totaling ₹11.47 crore, he added.
“The bank then proposed to settle the loan by paying her ₹1.55 crore in remission on the loan’s ultimate settlement. On April 5, 2014, the actor made the final loan payment, according to the official.
Preity Zinta’s ₹18 crore loan
Preity had already attacked the Kerala branch of the Congress for “spreading fake news” on her ₹18 crore debt.
“No, I manage my social media accounts myself, and shame on you for spreading FAKE NEWS!” she wrote on X. I did not have any loans or things written off. I am appalled that a political party or its representative is exploiting my name and photographs (sic) to spread false information, engage in disgusting rumors, and create clickbait.
New India Coop Bank scam
Hitesh Mehta, the main defendant in the case, will soon undergo a brain mapping test by the EOW at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Kalina, Mumbai, on Friday. More details regarding the money path and the involvement of other accused individuals will be gathered in this way.
According to the official, Mehta had previously been subjected to a polygraph test by the police.
However, Hiren Bhanu, the former bank chairman, and his wife Gauri Bhanu are wanted in connection with the case.
