How to Play NYT Connections

Sorting 16 words into four categories—each containing four items that are somehow related—is the aim of the Connections problem. Each option helps provide more hints as players sort the phrases over the course of four attempts. The game employs color to indicate the difficulty of the categories: purple groups are more difficult to handle, while yellow groups are easier. The categories grow more apparent as you play, and you get closer to solving the puzzle with each right group. Every day at midnight, the New York Times adds 16 new words to the puzzle. It offers a fresh challenge every day and can be played for free on their website or app.

Tips for Solving the NYT Connections Puzzle

To improve your chances of solving a challenging puzzle, begin by identifying connected groups of three words. Identifying the fourth word usually gets easier once you have a set of three. You can discover patterns as you continue to group words, which will aid you in determining the other categories. It takes time and trial and error to solve puzzles, so do not give up if you do not figure it out the first time. The game presents an enjoyable and fulfilling task, and each guess gets you one step closer to identifying every category.
